Notes

• Although they have never been issued as dolls, Barbie's parents' names are known to be George and Margaret Roberts. As part of Barbie's early 1960s storyline, she was also known to have a cousin called LuluBelle. She, too, was never merchandised.

• Barbie's cousin Francie's parents (Barbie's aunt and uncle) are named Lillian and Claude Fairchild.

• Barbie's younger brother Todd has a twin sister. This sister was called "Tutti" in the 1960s, and was later called "Stacie" upon her re-release in the 1990s and beyond. It is generally assumed that they are the same character, since Todd couldn't have more than one twin sister.
• Cindy is a friend of barbie
• During 1983, Barbie's long-standing friend P.J. was suddenly and inexplicably billed as "Barbie Doll's Cousin". This notation lasted just the one year, and the subject was never broached again.

• Ryan Sherwood, the young son of Barbie's friends Midge and Alan, was depicted as having a twin sister in promotional material, showing the twins as newborns the year after the Sherwood's wedding. Dolls of the twins were never officially issued. When the "Happy Family" line debuted some years later, a Kelly-sized Ryan was present, but his twin was not. No explanation was given for her absence.

• Barbie's friend Shani, produced during the early 1990s, was marketed as the star of her own toy line, and later as a member of Barbie's cast (much like Barbie's cousin Jazzie, who was first released under her own line). Although Shani's friends aren't directly connected as "Friends of Barbie", they are linked to Barbie through their friendship with Shani.

• As part of Barbie's sister Stacie's "Wee 3 Friends" line in the early 2000s, Stacie's two friends were billed under two different names each. The friends started out being called "Alexa" and "Miranda", but changed mid-way through the line to "Janet" and "Lila", respectively. Certain editions of these dolls can be found bearing either of these sets of names on the packaging.

• Also, early 2000s, two baby dolls were released. It is unknown how they are related.
• There have been numerous baby-sitter babies released. The first was in 1963. The second was in the mid-1970s, and he is called either Little Sweets or the Jones baby. Some of the Skipper baby-sitter babies from the 1990s have been named Sally, Amy, Becky, Maria and Shelly.
